Yoga built for the warrior

Prolonged exposure to combat and operational stress are just part of the job for service members and first responders. Warriors receive some of the best training to prepare for facing extreme and dangerous conditions. However, without the tools and training to help to manage the impact of stress and other traumas, those who serve us are vulnerable to developing serious stress-related disorders.

Mind-body practices like yoga are increasingly becoming a more popular adjunct therapy within the military and first responder population. Even the VA has recognized yoga to be highly effective in managing pain and improving systems of depression, anxiety and insomnia.

Our classes are designed specifically meet the needs of our Warriors. WWYP are utilizing the best practices in the industry to ensure veterans, service members and first responders have access to relevant yoga.

Yoga to sharpen the Warrior

By learning to regulate the nervous system, yoga helps prepare soldiers and first responders to keep composure during demanding situations and can improve job-performance.

Yoga for Resiliency & Preventative Care

Mind-body practices can help combat the impact of on-the-job-stress. Balancing the high-intensity of their work with yoga increases resiliency and provides our Warriors with more bandwidth.

Yoga for post-traumatic growth

Warriors are built to endure adversity, but the weight of chronic symptoms is a large burden to carry. Yoga has been shown to improve symptoms of PTS(D) and other stress-related disorders, giving back a sense of wellbeing.

  • "This was the first time I’ve ever felt relaxed and stretched or even at peace since I deployed."

    - Soldier, US Army Reserves

  • "I have been practicing yoga for about 30 years. I really enjoy these classes and go as often as I can. I was surprised by how much I get from doing yoga sitting on a chair. Some of our vets have wounds from combat, one vet is 99 years young! I love how we can all practice yoga together".

    - Desert Storm Veteran

  • "This is the only thing that has helped me".

    - WWII Navy Veteran

  •  “You are a lifesaver. Learning how to breathe through it made all the difference. This is really changing my life”.

    - US Army Veteran

Benefits of Yoga for Warriors

Research studies have demonstrated many benefits of yoga which are specifically relevant to veterans, service members, first responders and their families. Occupations that where individuals experience prolonged-exposure to high stress situations or potentially life-threatening events facilitate an overactive “flight or fight” response. The impact on the body and mind can be significant; minimizing performance and resilience while producing high-levels of chemicals that can contribute to sleep deprivation, injury and reduced brain function.

TRAUMA-INFORMED & EVIDENCE-BASED YOGA CAN:

  • Increase self-regulation

  • Reduce chronic pain

  • Decrease symptoms of PTSD, anxiety & depression

  • Increase Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

  • Integrates mind-body connection

  • Promote post-traumatic growth

  • And is a widely recommended adjunct therapy
