“Your experience of your life is not based on your life; it's based on what you pay attention to.”
The high-performance jobs of service members and first responders demand keen attention to be prepared for action. It’s their ability to focus and be vigilant that makes them so good at what they do to protect and serve.
Did you know that our brains evolved to have a bias to focus on the negative? This bias ensures our safety and survival and can be a very helpful tool… until it’s not.
When our negativity bias flows into our day to day life, we can easily overlook the positives. This can impact our relationships with our family, friends, coworkers and even ourselves.
In this workshop, led by Victoria Rojas, we will discuss how to train our attention to focus on the positive things in our life, which can result in a higher emotional intelligence and improved relationships. The ability to reframe our experience and perspective is a valuable skill to build and maintain resilience.
In the second part of the workshop, participants will be guided through a 45-minute yoga practice to bring connection to body and mind in a positive light, helping to encourage the search for positivity in something as simple as being in the posture we are in.
This workshop is open to the public and is beneficial not only to veterans and first responders but also to yoga practitioners, instructors, healthcare workers and anyone interested in this topic.
“Resilience Toolkit: Sleep” is one of 3 workshops being offered by WWYP June-August 2024. Workshops can be taken individually or as a series.
