Sleep is a vital part of the foundation for good health, well-being and resilience. The lack of adequate rest can lead to physical and mental health problems, injuries, loss of productivity, and even a greater risk of death.
Veterans and first responders are at a higher risk for problems with sleep stemming from their unique experiences. Disruption of sleep schedules due to overnight shifts, traumatic brain injury, endocrine dysfunction, psychological issues and substance abuse can all contribute to sleep disorders.
In this workshop led by Victoria Rojas, you will learn why sleep is so essential, explore ways we sabotage our own sleep schedule and learn strategies on how to improve the quality and length of sleep.
In the second part of the workshop, participants will be guided through a 45-minute yoga practice that incorporates evidence-based techniques proven to elicit the “relaxation response” to calm the body and mind and help better prepare our bodies for sleep.
This workshop is open to the public and is beneficial not only to veterans and first responders but also to yoga practitioners, instructors, healthcare workers and anyone interested in this topic.
“Resilience Toolkit: Sleep” is one of 3 workshops being offered by WWYP June-August 2024. Workshops can be taken individually or as a series.
This workshop is eligible for 1.5 hours of continued education through Yoga Alliance.
